Dakota "Cody" McCoy
Neubauer Family Assistant Professor
Dakota “Cody” McCoy is a Neubauer Family Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolution and the Marine Biological Laboratory. She researches biology and physics in coral reefs, human pregnancy, and beyond.

Luella Allen-Waller
Chicago Fellow
Luella Allen-Waller is a Chicago Fellow postdoctoral researcher in the McCoy Lab co-advised by Dr. Cathy Pfister. She studies the influence of dinoflagellate endosymbionts on the cnidarian surface microbiome, with a focus on how climate change alters this relationship.

Gabriela “Gabby” Mansilla
Research Technician
Gabriela “Gabby” Mansilla is a research technician in the McCoy Lab at the University of Chicago. She has a background in molecular science, and is interested in using genetics, genomics, and biophysics to better understand conflict in coral-algal symbiosis within the context of coral bleaching to help influence restoration efforts.

Daniela Pierro
PhD Student
Daniela Pierro is a second-year PhD student studying host-microbe interactions across multiple scales–from the molecular to ecological level. She is interested in how these relationships impact the adaptive potential of marine invertebrates, including coral and anemones, in the context of anthropogenic climate change.

Ethan Rothschild
PhD Student
Ethan Rothschild is a first year PhD student at the University of Chicago and is interested in investigating the evolution of symbioses in reef-dwelling organisms through experimental evolution.

Tanner Lee
PhD Student
Tanner Lee is a first year PhD student at the University of Chicago and is interested in the mechanisms that govern chloroplast longevity in solar-powered sea slugs.

Cynthia Wang
Rotation Student
Cynthia Wang is a first year PhD student in Biophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago. A computer scientist by training, Cynthia is interested in using computational methods to understand evolution in marine biological systems.
Yuling “Lynn” Gu
Undergraduate Researcher
Yuling “Lynn” Gu is a third-year chemical biology student at Berkeley and she is involved in the project on hormone-receptor coevolution in pregnancy. She is interested in how proteins evolve to have very specific biochemical properties.

Jenna Kotler
Research Scientist
Jennifer “Jenna” Kotler is a Consulting Research Scientist with an interest in all things genetic conflict, parent-offspring conflict, and pregnancy. She has a multi-disciplinary background with experience in evolutionary theory, genetics, psychology, and clinical research.

Beam McCoy
Paw-sitive Energy Specialist
Beam is a large, fuzzy German Shepherd with an even larger talent for napping. As the lab’s official Paw-sitive Energy Specialist, she graces us with ocassional visits to boost morale, spread fluff, and show off her expert floor loafing skills.

Garfield and Luna
Their skills include typing mysterious messages by walking across keyboards and making surprise (often uninvited) Zoom appearances.
